Apparel E-commerce AI Visibility Reports

“Best places to buy jeans online” is no longer just a Google query. It is now a ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity prompt. We analyzed 30 leading apparel e-commerce brands to see which retailers AI assistants recommend, which brands they understand, and where technical or reputation signals are holding visibility back.

What 30 audits reveal about apparel e-commerce AI visibility

Apparel is one of the most AI-exposed retail categories: shoppers compare brands, ask for fit and quality advice, check reviews, and expect personalized recommendations. But even major fashion brands are not consistently visible when AI assistants answer commercial shopping questions.

Across the category, brand awareness alone is not enough. AI visibility is being shaped by recommendation patterns, third-party review sources, technical crawlability, and how clearly each brand's site explains what it sells.

52%

Brands appeared in just over half of the AI shopping answers where they should have been relevant

Across the 30 apparel audits, each brand was tested against 15 relevant commercial shopping prompts in ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. The audited brand appeared in half of the answer checks.

That means nearly half of the time, AI assistants answered relevant shopper questions without naming the brand being tested.

26/29

Trustpilot is mostly negative across apparel e-commerce

Trustpilot profiles were found for 29 of the 30 apparel brands. 26 of those profiles carried negative sentiment in the report data.

That is the opportunity: shoppers usually leave Trustpilot reviews after something goes wrong — the wrong size, a delayed delivery, a rejected return, or a frustrating support experience. In a category where most major brands look weak on third-party review sites, a cleaner reputation profile can become a real AI visibility advantage.

63/100

AI tools only moderately understand what these brands offer

The average Polygraph score across the category was 63/100.

In plain English: AI assistants recognize many of these brands, but they do not always understand their offering with high confidence. For apparel CMOs, this creates a risk that AI tools recommend the brand inconsistently, explain it poorly, or fail to connect it with the right shopping intent.

The default brands AI keeps recommending

Across the commercial-discovery prompts, a small group of apparel and footwear brands appeared repeatedly in AI answers.

These are the brands AI assistants most often surfaced as recommendations, alternatives, or competitors across the category:

H&M · appeared in 50% of commercial prompt rows New Balance · 40% The North Face · 35% Nike · 34% Old Navy · 33% Nordstrom · 29% ASOS · 28% Adidas · 24% UNIQLO · 16% Zara · 16%

The takeaway: AI shopping answers already have default brand sets. If a retailer is not consistently included in those answer sets, it can lose visibility even when shoppers are asking questions directly related to its products.

Common visibility gaps

Prompt patterns where many apparel brands failed to surface consistently:

General fashion discovery

Queries like:

"What are the best online fashion retailers for buying clothes?"

Many brands were absent from broad discovery prompts, even when they are major names in apparel retail.
